Accuracy
We aim to be accurate and up to date. We base guidance on product specifications, manufacturer information, established home-improvement practice and publicly available sources. If we get something wrong, we want to fix it — see corrections below.
Independence
Our recommendations are editorial. BetterFlat uses affiliate links, including Amazon Associates links. A potential commission never determines what we recommend, how we rank products or what we say about them. See our affiliate disclosure.
Honesty about testing
We are clear about whether a guide is based on hands-on testing or on research. We never pretend to have tested something we have not.
Cautious, non-alarmist wording
Damp, mould, air quality and heating can affect health and safety. We provide practical advice, but we avoid medical claims and we encourage readers to seek professional help for serious problems such as persistent damp, structural issues or health symptoms.
Sources we use
Our guides are built from manufacturer specifications and instruction manuals, UK retailer product listings, published UK guidance on damp, ventilation, heating and home energy, and patterns we see in publicly available customer feedback. Where a claim is contested or depends on your particular flat, we say so rather than presenting it as settled fact.
What we don’t do
- We do not publish invented reviews, testimonials or star ratings.
- We do not accept payment for a place in a ranking or a “best overall” label.
- We do not copy manufacturer marketing copy or competitors’ content.
- We avoid stating exact prices. Any price guidance we give is indicative and dates quickly, so we link out for you to check the current figure yourself.

Who we are
BetterFlat is a small, independent UK publisher rather than a large editorial team. That is deliberate: it keeps the site focused on a narrow subject we can cover properly. It also means we are candid about the limits of what we can do — most guides are research-led rather than based on hands-on testing, and we always say which is which.
